23 januari 2011: Wouter Jansen van Citroexpert heeft ooit ergens in een Nederlands autotijdschrift van rond 1920 een berichtje gezien over de toen verwachte overname van Citroën door General Motors. Iets dat natuurlijk nooit plaats heeft gevonden, maar er lijken toch wat sporen in die richting te zijn. Zijn vraag is: zou iemand hem kunnen helpen dit berichtje te traceren? Of andere informatie hier omtrent.
24 januari 2011: Henk Schuuring vond een vijftal krantenberichten uit maart 1929 waarin Alfred P. Sloan van General Motors het gerucht ontkent:
Maar Wouter Jansen kreeg ook een antwoord van de hoofdarchivaris van GM USA, waaruit blijkt dat er ook in 1919 al sprake was van een deel-overname van Citroën door de Amerikanen. (Zie onderstaande quote). Vreemd dan dat tien jaar later weer dezelfde geruchten opduiken...
In his autobiography My Years with General Motors, former GM President and Chairman of the Board Alfred P. Sloan, Jr. discusses his and the company's interest in Citroën in some detail. On page 317, Sloan relates his and his contemporaries concerns about purchasing Citroën during the latter half of 1919. Sloan was sent as part of a group of executives by GM founder William Durant to make a study of the European Automobile Industry and it was this group that negotiated with André Citroën. These negotiations were for a half-interest in the company but the group decided not to go through with the purchase because of factors including the state of the Citroën manufacturing plant, political difficulties with the French government, and a lack of adequate management.
